Yesterday was almost a total bust. I got to the beach, took a couple of shots of one of the pathways through the sea grape plants on the dune, and went back to my car to drive closer to the pier. The car doesn't start, so I fiddle with the battery terminals, which have been giving me problems lately. Nothing. The car doesn't want to start. I fiddle some more, taking each terminal apart and dumping the remnants of a Coke on them (This actually works. The acids in the soda remove corrosion), clean them off with some water and try again. Nothing. I'm not mad though. Not even close. Just disappointed. I packed up all my camera gear, sling it across my shoulder and start walking. The nearest pay phone is about 2 miles away. Luckily, there's a cop less than half a mile away who lets me use his cell phone. I call AAA and walk back to the car to wait. The dispatcher said they'll be there before 9:30 am, and it was 8:00 am when I made the call.
I wait until 10:00 am. No truck.
I grab my bag, sling it and start walking again. This time I walk the 2 miles to the shopping center and call AAA again. They tell me the driver said I wasn't at the location. I tell them otherwise and that I never even saw a truck. They're sending another one, to the location of the car. I tell her, "I'm not walking 2 miles back to the car. Tell the driver to pick me up here." and give her the address.
15 minutes later, the driver shows up, takes me to my car. "You don't really appreciate how long a mile is, or 2 miles, until you've walked it", I thought to myself when we arrived at the car. He tests and jumps the battery and the car starts. So I leave, to get a new battery.
Having done that, and installing it, I'm just too tired to deal. Nap time. I set the alarm for 3:30 pm, thinking to go downtown before I lose too much light.
I went and was able to get about 2 hours of walking and photos done with the Yashica and the Holga.
How was your day?
