  • These are some of the most visceral, terrible, haunting, heart breaking images I've ever seen.

  • I'm so not going to be able to get those images out of my head. Amazing, in both bad and good ways.

  • I agree with Shapely...these are visions eyes don't easily forget.

  • *sigh* Beautifully done photos, despite the heartbreak.

  • damn, i agree with all of you

  • some were ok, some were bad. Do you remember the photo taken many years ago, must be over 10 years now, with the boy so weakened by starvation that he couldn't walk to the aid truck for food? crows had surrounded him, just waiting for him to die, and he just squats there.

The photographer killed himself a few months later. I can't remember who it was, or what the photo was called though.

  • I actually thought the worst one was the slippers walking over all those bullet casings

  • I swear I'm not blowing smoke up your ass but Rich, you are in THAT league.

  • What a harsh reality...makes my heart physically ache.

  • That's some mighty powerful photography.

  • Wow, those are amazing.

  • One by Carolyn Cole - the one of the sandals - reminds me of the display of shoes in the Holocaust Museum in D.C.

  • I'm always amazed by people who can capture both the beauty and ugliness of life so well.

  • Welcome to the rest of the world.  We (at least most of us) are so lucky and so isolated in America.  Images of war and conflict seem so stark to us - but people who live in developing countries/regions of conflict are often confronted with images of suffering and extreme poverty on a daily basis.  On their drive/walk to work.  Daily.  Almost normal. To them.  On a socio-political note (b/c I can't look at these images without going there), please remember that your actions impact what happens in other countries.  Not just voting for just leaders here, but by supporting relief and development organizations, buying fair trade, using less oil . . . and finally, being educated about what happens elsewhere.  I saw a bumper sticker recently that said, "what have you done recently to promote a peaceful world?"
