  • Great day today. I mean GREAT. Erin and Iris came by, and Iris gave me a pic she drew of me. It even has spiky hair and glasses. So cute. It's now been magnet-stuck onto my refrigerator.

Then we hit the thrift stores, something I've been getting back into doing and something Erin hasn't done in a while. I found the coolest stuff. I mean THE COOLEST.
Three cameras for under $12. Doubtful it gets any better than that.
The first one I found was a really cheap 35mm panoramic camera. On further inspection, I found out it has a Holga-like cheap plastic lens. I'm curious to see how the shots turn out.

The second one I found was this bad boy (girl?), a Mekai 4 Shooter:

Very similar to the Lomo Sampler camera, but this one has, again, cheap plastic lenses. I'm really anticipating using this one. I found a small page and gallery of images from this camera, looks cool to me.
The last one I found (well, Erin found it), was a Polaroid 420 Land Camera, manufactured in the 1970's. Nice. It's in great condition, though I'll be giving it a good cleaning before I use it.

Also found some great t shirts:

Yeah, my beef is jerky, and I definitely pound my porgies. Hard.
Almost as hard as Erin's throws. She's is developing a really mean hip throw. Training tonight, she threw me perfectly, rattling both my head and my junk; the signature of a good throw.
Let me go on for a few moments about some of the many reasons I think she's amazing:
First and foremost, she's strong. She exudes this quiet strength of character that I can't help but respect. At the same time, she's so completely dorky and hilarious, it charms my pants off...and my shirt...and my socks...
    Examples?
*When she gave birth to Iris, it was a 13 hour labor. At home. No drugs whatsoever.
(I just asked her if 13 hours was correct, and her answer was: "It started with the first signs at 1:30 p.m. and I had her at 6:45 am", so there you have it).
*She was a Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Specialist/Small Arms Instructor in the Air Force. Basically, she's marksman level ranking with all firearms.
*She has 4 classes left to complete her BA in History.
*She's artistic; She used to do plaster castings of pregnant women and paint them. She also wants to get into doing photography of pregnant women.
*She taught special needs children for a year.
*She's one of the coolest, sweetest, caring people I know, yet she won't hesitate to tell you the fuck off if you deserve it.
I know I could go on and on and on about her, every day there's something new about her that sincerely and utterly amazes me.
Is it any wonder why I'm completely in love with her (again)?

    EDIT:
I just bought 2 more cameras, at the pawn shop next to my work. This is becoming an addiction. My newest 2 additions:
    Yashica Electro 35
    Canon GIII QL

    EDIT 2:
Whoever had the Yashica before me modded it to take still in production alkaline batteries. STOKED!

  • I'm in love with her too!

    and those cameras....droooooooooool.

    Enjoy the future usage!

  • I can't believe you found those cameras and shirts. Mudban is gonna be so jealous of those shirts. So happy about the girls. Oh and the plan was to name Henry Iris if he was a girl.

  • Yeah. You're lucky I've sworn off women named Erin, and that 'marksman level' fire arms skills actually kind scares me...

Other than that... I'd steal her away from you. 'Cuz, ya know... I'm all irresistible n' stuff.

    YOU LUCKY BASTARD!

Not just cuz of the girls, but that polaroid is making me pant. You would *never* find something like that in a thrift store up here. Although, we are, like, the capital of flea markets and antique (read: junk) stores.

Are the bellows in good shape? It looks pretty sharp. Is it 4x5 film? Inquiring minds want to know...

As for the 4shooter... The multi-cameras they sell on the lomo society page are just cheapies, too. They just try to make everybody *think* they're getting something special. They are the biggest rip-off artists in the world. Now they're selling lubitel 166Bs for something like $180! They make andy mad... grrr....

I can't wait to see pics from all three cameras. I'm bettin' they'd be pretty cool no matter what, but in your skilled hands, they're gonna seriously rock.

Kid art is the best. I think I have the proprietor of the coffee house I go to convinced to put up a kid's gallery. I want for her to do it just like she would do any other artist. Even let the kids sell them and everything.

Tell Iris she's super talented for me. It looks *just* like you

  • Like I just told you.... don't piss her off, she can probably kick your ass.

Looking forward to seeing the shots taken by the cams

  • That drawing that Iris made you is fantastic! And holy crap - nice finds at the thrift store! Have fun with those cameras!

  • She sounds fabulous for you :) its great to see you so happy!

and i'm totally craving thrift store shopping now

  • Dude! 669 (and I assume 667) is *definitely* peel apart. It's the film most used for doing transfer techniques. You have no idea how lucky you are with that camera! The film is a little weird from what I understand, though. It's something like 80 ISO, so if you shoot indoors you'll have to use a flash or major tungstens! It also shoots really deep blues. They're beautiful, though. It's what you think of when you think, "Polaroid-like". I'm so jealous! but at the same time very happy for you (on many fronts, there, actually). It's nice when good things happen to good people.

  • Hey there. Long time no post.  I'd say Erin is a great catch and she's got beauty about her. Must be the eyes heh.  One piece of advice: Never piss a woman off who knows how to use a gun....

  • AWW. aww. hehe.

  • Sounds like good times, and Erin sounds amazing.  It's good to hear you so happy.

  • Yay.  Falling in love with the same person a second time is the best feeling in the world.  As for Orlando, I really want to go.  I'll check with others at my school.  Maybe I can convince a group of us to go compete even if our teacher doesn't go.

  • How much was the jerky shirt?  I know people who would pay top dollar for that guy.

Your comment on my blog the other day made me laugh so hard.  It's good to see we have some common interests!

  • cool finds... ...love renewed...a good thing for sure...

  • Oooooh...DANG IT man!  You lucky lucky lucky monkey!!!!!

    Take me shopping toooooooo...

  • I'm so happy for ya! And those shirts really rock.

    luv julia

  • You're going to get dehydrated from all that 'cream-age'.

Please, for the good of all...drink plenty of fluids.

  • That Canonette GIII QL is a sweet find. It's a baby Leica :)

  • *sigh* happiness is a beautiful thing.

  • ... my favourite obsession of all times... I love to buy the junkiest old cameras I can find, and shoot pics of crowds from hip level... often ending up with legs/feet/ground... so often I am surprised at the quirkiness of the results.  I love it.  Old, warped, grainy... fun!!!

  • She sounds amazing!  Go you!

  • ooh, i'd love to have a polaroid land camera, neat. and i love the shirts! beef jerky rocks! a marksman, eh? i went to the shooting range last week and did pretty good myself. my favorite gun? a 44 magnum just like dirty harry used

  • sounds like you've found a gem...and an artist in the making (iris)...go you

  • she sounds great.the type of person I'd like to hang around with. not all these teacup-sized bag toting girls mincing around.

  • I find myself wondering how many cameras you have. ;)   Makes me miss hunting through thrift stores on all-day excursions.

  • a beautiful tribute. beauty lies in the strength of a person's character and being able to see it in other people. cheers, very lovely lovely lovely words.

  • all my pawn shop has is shot glasses from bad local mountain tourist attractions.

    i'm jealous.

  • Those cameras!  Drool...

Have you ever come across http://www.stealitback.com/ ?  They usually have some good cameras up for auction.
