Still accepting questions for the 'about' page on my site. C'mon people! Please?

  • Just some quick thoughts. After going through almost all of the links on the Photo Friday challenge, I'm thinking to myself.. "How can so many people take pictures of the same thing?" Flaking, peeling paint. Beat up old cars. Condemned buildings. I'd say that's about 90% of the subjects, out of 300+ sites. COME ON PEOPLE. Sheesh. I'd say about 5-10 photos contained people as subject (including mine), and 2 photos were of something entirely different (like this one, which i thought was pretty spiffy). Grrr.
On the work front, I applied for, and got, a new job position. Bonuses include: a nice pay increase and working from home. Stoked. So supremely stoked.
And to top off a great day, I received a postcard from Vegas.

Also, I've decided that the "about" on my site page is sucky. I'd like for anyone commenting to leave a question, about anything, and I'll choose the best ones to use on the page.

Don't forget to check my Photo of The Day.

  • Todays Photo Of The Day brought to you by the Photo Friday Challenge(I'm #291):
    Neglect

  • I've redone the button link to my photo site as a graphic.

If you'd like to put it on your site, here's the new and improved one:

  • erin 08080: iris just cut out a tree and put an elephant in it
richard the jinx: the indian elephants can climb trees right?
richard the jinx: with their prehensile tails, right?
    erin 08080: ummm....no
erin 08080: oh, yes, with the tails, of course
    richard the jinx: thought so
erin 08080: you are kidding, right?
    richard the jinx: no
richard the jinx: they have prehensile tails
richard the jinx: and climb trees
richard the jinx: then when something tasty walks under the tree, they drop down on it
    erin 08080: they do not
richard the jinx: and crush its head
    erin 08080: you dork

  • No more photos here. From now on, they'll be here. The weblog is still a little buggy, and you'll see some older pics for a little bit. I apologize for the HTML/CSS weirdness that's going on over there. I haven't had a whole lot of time to just sit down and edit everything.

  • Quote of the year:

... Somalia, which has a Minister of Tourism, has officially not had a single tourist for 14 years. The [Minister of Tourism], Abdi Jimale Osman, can't understand this. "I'm sure tourists would leave Somalia alive and I'm hopeful they wouldn't be kidnapped," he is reported as saying. "At least, we would try to make sure they were not kidnapped, though it can happen."

  • Congratulations! Your mafia name is:

    Rich "Chimpy Nuts" Bagley

    Yo, getcha mafia name here.

  • Great day today. I mean GREAT. Erin and Iris came by, and Iris gave me a pic she drew of me. It even has spiky hair and glasses. So cute. It's now been magnet-stuck onto my refrigerator.

Then we hit the thrift stores, something I've been getting back into doing and something Erin hasn't done in a while. I found the coolest stuff. I mean THE COOLEST.
Three cameras for under $12. Doubtful it gets any better than that.
The first one I found was a really cheap 35mm panoramic camera. On further inspection, I found out it has a Holga-like cheap plastic lens. I'm curious to see how the shots turn out.

The second one I found was this bad boy (girl?), a Mekai 4 Shooter:

Very similar to the Lomo Sampler camera, but this one has, again, cheap plastic lenses. I'm really anticipating using this one. I found a small page and gallery of images from this camera, looks cool to me.
The last one I found (well, Erin found it), was a Polaroid 420 Land Camera, manufactured in the 1970's. Nice. It's in great condition, though I'll be giving it a good cleaning before I use it.

Also found some great t shirts:

Yeah, my beef is jerky, and I definitely pound my porgies. Hard.
Almost as hard as Erin's throws. She's is developing a really mean hip throw. Training tonight, she threw me perfectly, rattling both my head and my junk; the signature of a good throw.
Let me go on for a few moments about some of the many reasons I think she's amazing:
First and foremost, she's strong. She exudes this quiet strength of character that I can't help but respect. At the same time, she's so completely dorky and hilarious, it charms my pants off...and my shirt...and my socks...
    Examples?
*When she gave birth to Iris, it was a 13 hour labor. At home. No drugs whatsoever.
(I just asked her if 13 hours was correct, and her answer was: "It started with the first signs at 1:30 p.m. and I had her at 6:45 am", so there you have it).
*She was a Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Specialist/Small Arms Instructor in the Air Force. Basically, she's marksman level ranking with all firearms.
*She has 4 classes left to complete her BA in History.
*She's artistic; She used to do plaster castings of pregnant women and paint them. She also wants to get into doing photography of pregnant women.
*She taught special needs children for a year.
*She's one of the coolest, sweetest, caring people I know, yet she won't hesitate to tell you the fuck off if you deserve it.
I know I could go on and on and on about her, every day there's something new about her that sincerely and utterly amazes me.
Is it any wonder why I'm completely in love with her (again)?

    EDIT:
I just bought 2 more cameras, at the pawn shop next to my work. This is becoming an addiction. My newest 2 additions:
    Yashica Electro 35
    Canon GIII QL

    EDIT 2:
Whoever had the Yashica before me modded it to take still in production alkaline batteries. STOKED!
